The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill with Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several intriguing future games, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring several human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate personas, all possessing their own anxieties and drives. These entities can take over at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes depict the protagonist navigating a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate something primal inside us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic involves managing whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have large flowers growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
