Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
