Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels appropriate to speak out against the Trump administration, worried it could worsen unhelpful debate and further divisions within the nation.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence
During a discussion, she reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, election after election, public figures do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for.”
The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the country apart.”
Political Evolution
The actress has admitted freely about voting for both right and leftwing candidates over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and revealing she understood during the Obama era that voting Republican was undermining her own rights as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Earlier in her career, she remarked that a Trump victory would be “a disaster” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “because I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to protect abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was aligned with most of Hollywood in her opposition to Trump as a returning figure, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the public choices was underscored by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term feels different,” said she regarding his leadership. “As he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
Current Projects
The actor is highlighting the drama, the filmmaker’s drama in which she stars as a recent parent who faces challenges with her mental health in the countryside. At a interview session for the movie in the film festival, the star commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is equivalent to a genocide and it’s terrible.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by stating that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discussions of American politics right now and how that is going to be normalised to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence sought to redirect anger about the conflict to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she said, seen by observers as a reference to the recent commitment supported by thousands of entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Relatable Experiences
Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in the new film. Although Ramsay has rejected the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychological distress, she revealed that she connected with parts of her role’s experience after the delivery of her second son, shortly after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety for my son,” she said, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I started taking a drug called Zurzuvae and I used it for 14 days and it was effective.”
Career Moments
The actor also mentioned about the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the movie while she was expecting and unable to exercise.
“It feels nice,” she said, about having to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
