It: Welcome to Derry Debuts Second Ahead of Schedule on HBO Max

Fans are eagerly awaiting for the chilling show the Derry series, which is receiving positive feedback and incorporating references from additional King stories. Now, the network has revealed that the next chapter will premiere ahead of schedule, released fittingly for October 31st.

Early Release Details

Kicking off on Halloween night at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, the second episode of the Derry prequel will make its debut on HBO Max, before its Sunday HBO premiere. Future chapters of the show's first season will premiere on Sunday nights on the network and streaming service, leading up to the concluding chapter on December 14th.

Series Overview

Based in Stephen King’s It universe, the new series is inspired by King’s iconic novel while enlarging the setting established by director Andy Muschietti in It and It Chapter Two. It Chapter One centered on adolescents facing supernatural evils, so it’s fitting that this show continues that tradition. Yet, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry shows it set out to raise the stakes, providing heightened horror than the cinematic versions and creating a brutal tone for the upcoming episodes.

Setting and Themes

Set in 1962, the program features a fresh cast of adults and children residing in a seemingly idyllic town concealing a dark secret. This place follows a brutal, periodic loop—defined by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence reappears every 27 years. While Welcome to Derry might sound like it strays too near to the movies initially, what sets apart the streaming show is its two-sided viewpoint—told from the eyes of both children and adults at the same time. The kids stay particularly vulnerable to It's terror, but older characters also face dealing with their personal demons born from local discrimination and lurking supernatural forces.

The series airs on the 31st of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
