Eulogies Continue for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
More than two weeks following the shocking loss of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the pair.
âLife is Pain Without Youâ: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Sharing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt ready to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has passed that I can at last put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner created an instant bond. "Once we started sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor uploaded archival material from the production, adding that he doesn't recollect "one day without laughter".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Things that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Fellow Artist
In a distinct essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with everyone, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles court official agreed to block the release of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the local authorities.
A judicial mandate issued a security hold on the cases to limit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" associated with the probe.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the result of murder, with a public database listing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the killings, public figures shared varying reactions.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, offering divisive remarks that were widely condemned by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his criticism to the critics recently. Talking on his show, Rogan labeled the statements as "shocking" and implied they demonstrated a troubling absence of compassion.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an aide should have intervened when the decision to speak on the passing was made.
