Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot commented.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Failings and Player Reaction

Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with results so bad.”

Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
